The Eternal Gargoyle
The Eternal Gargoyle
by Charles E S Fairey
I stare at the darkness from within
For I Am the Foundation of the stone built temple,
For I watch and see as the Eternal Gargoyle
I hope those diseased of soul are in turmoil.
For here I look and see and scare away
All heathens from my stone built temple,
For I Am the All and Most, the Eternal Gargoyle
And unto me your innermost fears unfoil.
The stonemasons carved me with gruesome face
Claws and double edged fiery tongue,
For I Am the Foundation of the stone built temple
For I Am the All Seeing, God’s Gargoyle,
The bread and the wine and the incense oil.
From the sacred ground I stand guard
Over all who dare to enter with evil thought,
All heathens from my stone built temple
Are spewed out of my cleansing mouth of me, the Gargoyle,
And the last thing I take as you enter, is the end of your mortal coil.
I stare at the darkness from within
For I Am the Foundation of the stone built temple,
For I watch and see as the Eternal Gargoyle
I hope those diseased of soul are in turmoil.
I Am one of God’s immortal creatures
I Am like the stars when they fall
For my staring like statue descends at the End
For I watch and see as the Eternal Gargoyle,
Those who hinder brethren’s work in fire boil
For mine payment is the gold of Armageddon’s spoil.
We look down from heaven, the protectors of the Throne
From this our monument of heaven upon this the earth,
You may think we are just a bit of architect’s fun
But from the sacred ground I stand guard,
For I Am the All and Most, the Eternal Gargoyle
And when you see us move and our wings uncoil
And our brethren rise from the sacred protected soil
You and Me shall realise, God is the Eternal Gargoyle!
