Step Into The Unknown
Lud’s Church, The Enchantment Of Immortal Bards
by Charles E S Fairey
Lud’s Church and the Midsummer Light
Sir Gawain and the Greene Knight,
Illuminating the hidden Chapel of Olde
And the magnificent legends and stories told.
The Lollards and their heretical hymn
Where the Olde World and New, are Veil Thin,
The Midsummer Golden Sun Up High
The Sliver Up Above of Light Blue Sky.
Here Sir Gawain of Arthurian fame
By the Greene Knight was mortally slain,
Sacrificed to become the rocks, moss and fern
With greene hue his eyes in the rock burn.
The enchanting emerald eyes of Olde burn bright
Staring from the ravine the Greene Man and his Knight,
Watching the world of visitor eyes open wide
For the Greene Knight lives, he never died,
Watching from the cliffs with guardian eye
Whilst up above the Sun God and his Midsummer Sky.
Lud’s the Church of the heretical Lollards
A place which has enchanted the immortal bards,
The heretics of olde Catholics burned
But has Walter the Lud returned,
Preaching his hymn of the Lord of the Longest of Days
Whilst true believers listen and bask in emerald rays?
Lud’s Church and the Midsummer Light
Sir Gawain and the Greene Knight,
Illuminating the hidden Chapel of Olde
And the magnificent legends and stories told.
Stories reveal of Bonnie Charlie and Robin Hood
Hiding in the chasm of Gawain’s sacrificial blood,
Gawain’s leaf and moss covered spirit of Woodwose
The greene rocks and the hymns the stone knows,
For the Greene Man and the Greene Knight
Stare out from the Greene Chapel, even in daylight!
Secrets are hidden in this hidden majestic place
Even the Knight’s form can be spied in the rock face,
His greene footsteps left in the muddy floor
Visitor follows his path to the forbidden lore,
And the Arthurian secrets of his Lord and Enchanting land
And the ‘Lady of Lud’ blesses all with the seas of sand.
The Greene Chapel and the Midsummer Light
Across the Pennines the fires burn in the night,
The Chapel drenched in moss and emerald hue
Whilst Up Above bright sunlight sky blue,
A Visitors Wishing Coin riveted olde dead Tree
A place of the Olde World and Pagans can See,
Where the Veil is Thin between the Venusian Divide
Where the Greene Man and Knight in drapery hide,
Where visitors’ eyes dance in the magical delight
At the stories and legends of Olde, Bold and Bright,
Where rule Sir Gawain and the Greene Knight
Lud’s Church and the Midsummer Light.
